Jay Deakins founded Deacom, Inc. in 1995 with the idea that ERP software should simplify complex business processes. Today Complexity Made Simple™ is the DEACOM tagline.
Prior to establishing Deacom, Inc., Jay Deakins founded and served as President of Sun and Earth Company, a manufacturer of all-natural cleaning products distributed through national supermarket chains and other mass merchants. Among other duties at Sun and Earth, Deakins led the development of software to manage all operations of the business. Through this process, Deakins learned firsthand the many pitfalls of internal software creation within a manufacturing company.
As a direct result of this experience, Deakins formed Deacom in 1995, a producer of innovative software for manufacturing companies. Initially, Deakins set up Deacom headquarters in his mother-in-law's basement. There he single-handedly sold DEACOM Integrated Accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software Systems and supported his customers during the day, and wrote code to further advance the software at night. In 1996, Deakins moved Deacom from the basement to his house. Deacom relocated to its first corporate offices in 1999.
Today, in addition to Deakins, Deacom has a professional staff and occupies over 5,000 square feet of offices in Wayne, PA. Deakins is an active member and speaker for a number of industry associations, including the Wood Truss Council of America (WTCA), Modular Building Systems Association (MBSA), Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), Western Coatings Symposium, HBA Technical Conference, CHEM Show Educational Conference, Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT), Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC), Inc., Generic Pharmaceutical Association (GPhA), Powder Coating Institute (PCI), Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA), Snack Food Association (SFA), Modular Building Institute (MBI), Engineered Wood Products Association (EWPA), and the Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA).
Deakins attended the University of Miami in Florida, where he played on the golf team. He currently resides in Wayne, PA with his wife and three children.
